I moved to the rural Missouri Ozarks in late July, 2001, after "completly retiring".   I am really out in the boonies, 11 miles out of Shell Knob, on beautiful Table Rock Lake.   The clincher to decide to move was when my Wisconsin Property taxes reached what I consider an obscene level.  If I stayed there, there is no way I could have afforded to retire.  In my first life I was an Electronics Engineer.  When the company I worked for moved, I opted to change careers.  For the next 10 years I made Jewelry Boxes and did some "hot glass "work.   Talk about hi-tech to no tech! . I have been doing hobby metalworking since 1997 or so, recently getting involved with casting aluminum as well.  Much of my tooling and machines were obtained at auctions while living in Wisconsin, close to Milwaukee.  Those machine shop auctions are one thing I really miss!  My first couple of engines were Stirlings.  Then some small steam models.   Now I am hooked on minature as well as full size antique farm engines.  I had my shop built prior to moving here, 25' by 35', and of course now it is too small.  Two small window  air conditioners left over from my home in Wis keep it very comfortable in the hot summer, and I have a small propane heater for heat in the winter.
THE HERMIT'S MACHINE SHOP
Memorial to September 11, 2001 Tragedy
Thanks for visiting my website.  There will be additions (and some changes) frequently.  My activities now are primarily making small engines, restoring full size antique farm engines, making tooling, and whatever else suits my fancy.

I arrived here on 28 July 2001.  On 11 Sep. there were some leaks being repaired in my new shop roof.  I kept checking TV and relaying the tragedy to the repairman.  Does anyone not remember what they were doing on that day?

My shop cat, Lucky, diligently on guard. Why I named her Lucky is another story.
WELCOME
My woodshop is finally in place, a separate 12 X 20 building.  Moving the woodworking equipment certainly opened up space in the Metal shop.
