Not only was this my first I.C. engine, it is what got me started in home foundry work.  I wanted to follow the plans as closely as possible, and foundry work had been on my mind for a while.  Casting my own parts has opened up an entirely new universe. There will be lots of information on my foundry page (not yet completed).  I saw a couple of these engines at a small antique engine show last summer (2002).  One of the guys had a new copy  of Vince Gingerys book, so I bought it on the spot.  The book is one of the most detailed set of plans I have ever used, everything from pattern making for the castings to making several useful fixtures. The following chronology illustrates progress from patterns and castings, to some machining, to the finished engine.
The connecting rod and pivot post, patterns and castings
Cylinder head and Pillars
9" flywheel and split pattern
Creating patterns makes good use of some of my woodworking equipment. When I was making Jewelry boxes, never in my wildest dreams did think I would be using the equipment for this!
There will be more info on the casting process when I get my foundry pages done.
