THE VERTICAL STAND, SLIDE, DRILL CHUCK,
AND COLLETS
The vertical stand will accommodate two different electrode holders. One is a drill chuck, for round electrodes, on the left. The chuck is insulated from the stand by using a nylon washer on the top end of the chuck. The screw that secures the chuck to the stand goes through a nylon bushing, which insulates it as well.
The one on the right will hold square tubing or irregular shaped electrodes. I made several brass "collets" that fit inside the white nylon piece, secured with the brass screw. The negative connection is made to the brass screw. When the drill chuck is used, the connection is made to the small tab on the top of the bracket.
This is the slide assembly. The drill chuck is removed, showing the black nylon insulting washer, the SHCS that secures it to the bracket, and the connecting tab for the negative lead. The pressed-in white nylon bushing that insulates the SHCS from the bracket is also visible.
The white nylon collet holder is shown with a square piece of brass tubing installed. It is secured to the stand with the same SHCS that is used for the drill chuck. I bored a hole through the brass "collets" to a diameter that will allow a snug fit for various sizes of square brass tubing that I might use. The hole in the side of the collet allows the brass screw (shown on the nylon holder) to secure the tubing inside the "collet".
