Here is the Cam and Governor Arm fixture in place. The Cam blank is secured on the left, using a SHCS with a sleeve, and a small SHCS through a small hole through where the top of the Cam will be. The blank is a rectangular piece of Brass, milled through just slightly into the fixture plate. A finished Cam is shown on the right.
The brass blank for the Governor arms is secured with the two small SHCS on the right, top. Two arms are machined at once, and not cut completely through. Just enough stock is left to hold them together for the last pass. The blank is then removed, and the two arms are broken away and filed smooth.
Here is a sample of how the clamps are used with the tapped fixture plate. Two different clamps are shown. The one on the left does not require a step clamp. There is a 1/4 - 20 tapped hole through the back, providing the height adjustment. On the front end is a short milled slot for another 1/4 - 20 SHCS to fasten to the tapped hole in the fixture plate. A piece of scrap brass is placed under the rear screw to prevent marring the plate. The conventional step clamp is shown on the right. Only one screw is used secure the clamp.
