A Sensitive Drilling Attachment
This is a very handy addition for hand drilling.  I purchased  this attachment for several years, to use on the Mini Mill.  Thanks to a screw-on arbor from Taig, I was able to adapt it for the Max.  Shown above is the arbor, which I bored and reamed to 0.501, so the drill chuck adapter would fit.  A 1/4 - 20 set screw was added to the side, to secure the adapter in the arbor.  The arbor  screws onto the spindle in place of the collet chuck.

Shown on the bottom right is the drill chuck adaptor extended.  It is spring loaded, with a free spinning knurled ring used to move the drill chuck down.

It is easy to use.  When the piece to be drilled is in position,  I program a delay in the G-code, to allow time to hit the spacebar and stop the program.  Then do the manual drilling operation.  When complete. type C to go to the next step.  This drill chuck has a range of 0 to 3/16", but is only practical for smaller size drill bits.
